We hold regular virtual Coalition gatherings at 1pm every first and third Tuesday of the month, organize rapid-response efforts when local issues demand it, and maintain a presence at key local and state gatherings.

We’re continuing the conversation about Charlottesville considering an Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), and beginning conversations with other cities to replicate the Justice Coalition model — including helping you begin a local Justice Coalition of your own.

The CJC builds capacity by supporting grassroots organizing and advocacy that empower communities across Virginia to reimagine public safety. The Coalition helps organizations and residents develop the skills, networks, and strategies needed to sustain long-term change in public safety systems.

We’re increasing the use of restorative practices in Charlottesville, particularly with schools, faith spaces, and community referrals to Central Virginia Community Justice.

We’re working to decrease the number of guns in the city and shootings in neighborhoods while advancing deescalation efforts and collaborations.

We’re strategically growing reentry services to be more Coordinated, Comprehensive, and Connected. We’re also creating and publishing Second Chance Business and Second Chance Housing/Landlord lists — businesses and landlords willing to support and engage people returning home from jail or prison.
